The Dispatcher: Carrying Green

The Dispatcher: Carrying Green

In today's America, privacy and protection commodities are consumed like fruit toppings on a bowl of Wheaties, the "Breakfast of Champions".
Set to the backdrop of New York City in the near future, this radio play chronicles the day-to-day engagements of a short wave radio dispatcher-for-hire (private contractor of the airwaves). Dispatch clientele run the gamut from your everyday Joe reporting a lost password to a third party broker of private information to a neighborhood patrol of canine-identifying vigilantes who refer to themselves as the Sniff Squad.

Kristin Lucas was born in 1968. She lives and works in New York. Since 1996 Kristin Lucas has made work about the physical and psychological effects of human-machine co-dependency, the isolation and paranoia that accompany our shift to mediated communication, the subtleties between brainwashing, programming and evolutionary mutation, compliance and compatibility. She translates these observations and conspiracy theories into sci-fi distopias (balancing seriousness with humor) that result in video, internet, sculpture, performance and installation works.
