In continuation of the online database that has been maintained for several years and which understands itself as an ‹Archive for civil disobedience› concerned with the use of property, the workshop held by Belgian artist and activist Kobe Matthys will work on structures and visualisations of alternative models of copyright and intellectual property. It will reflect upon the side-effects of the construction of intellectual property, which is based upon the legal distinction between nature and culture.

With regard to Saxony-Anhalt being the scene of fierce debates on the use of biotechnologies in the agricultural sector, the workshop focuses on examples of jurisprudence around use of patents of ‹life› and the legal reasoning that allows patenting DNA compositions, diagnostic gene testing kits, monoclonal antibodies and transgenic animals.
