The workshop is initiated by participants of the Critical Studies Program, which is organised as a collaboration between Malmö Art Academy and Rooseum Center for Contemporary Art.

It encompasses art as knowledge production, discussing various ways in which art can interact with or reflect upon its surroundings, be they abstract or concrete, political, social or aesthetic. Opening up the term ‹knowledge production› as well as questioning it's relation to existing structures, like copyrights, file sharing, mediation etc., is also one of the workshop's aims.

The challenge met by the participants of the workshop, coming from theoretical, artistic and curatorial backgrounds in arts and related fields, is to combine the different interests in and interpretations of the broad field of associations connected to ‹knowledge as common property›.
